Dr Shanu Subbiah is an Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Surgeon at Eye Institute, 123 Remuera Road, Remuera 1050, where he provides advanced medical and surgical eye care; patients are encouraged to share their experiences and write a review to help others make informed choices.

Special interest

His medical interests include laser vision correction, refractive cataract surgery, lens exchange procedures, corneal transplantation, keratoconus management, and medical retina conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr Subbiah has dual fellowship training in both retinal and corneal disease, enabling him to treat conditions affecting both the front and back of the eye. He is also actively involved in clinical research into macular degeneration and retinal disease, presenting at international conferences and contributing to advancements in ophthalmology.

Dr Subbiah graduated MBChB from the University of Aberdeen in 2000, obtained FRCOphth in 2011, and completed his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Ophthalmology in the UK in 2012. He undertook fellowship training in corneal and retinal disease, and has been practicing at Eye Institute in Auckland since 2013. He also holds consultant positions at Greenlane Clinical Centre and academic roles at the University of Auckland.
